Colombia became the first country in Latin America to sign a defense cooperation agreement with the federal Republic of Germany.
This agreement, conducted by the ministries of Defence of both countries, strengthens bilateral relations by deepening cooperation in the field of defence, and encourages activities of common interest around security.
This happened after the meeting conducted by the German ambassador to Colombia, Peter Ptasse; the frigate captain Harald Krempchen, German Defense attaché in Colombia and the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano Aponte.
“We appreciate this close cooperation that we have had with Germany, now this agreement enters a new phase, which may lead us to strengthen those ties of cooperation, to fulfill fundamental roles of Colombia within NATO in development and support of international operations," said Minister Molano.
It is worth noting that, Germany is a key element for Colombia's interests, especially in the framework of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization-NATO - and the European Union.
“This is the first time that we have signed an agreement with a Latin American country, with our partners in Colombia. This document is very important for the future of our countries,” said Commander Harald Krempchen, German Defense attaché in Colombia.
With the signing of this Cooperation Agreement, Colombia joins the efforts of the European Union, demonstrating the country's willingness to contribute to the purposes of the international community, in relation to the maintenance of global maritime security, by sharing the Resources and experience of the Colombian Military Forces.
In the meeting conducted by the German delegation and Minister Molano, the role of Colombian Military Forces in protecting the environment was in the same way highlighted, contributing to the reduction of deforestation by 20 percent thanks to Operation Artemisa.
