The Colombian Navy in a coordinated work with the leaders of the maritime transport productive groups, has strengthened the protection of maritime communication lines between the different communities of the Colombian Pacific coast. For this purpose, there are three Coast Guard Stations and a Surface Flotilla with which the Naval Institution works for the safety of the different cargo and passenger transport ships.
Since 2010, the Pacific Naval Force has had the Sentinel Plan, an initiative in which orders and instructions are issued in order to innovate and strengthen the sea control strategy through various naval operations for the free transit of ships on maritime and river communication lines within its area of responsibility.
It should be noted that in recent months it was possible to arrest alias Bembo, alias Causa and alias Felipe, ringleaders responsible for carrying out theft at sea in the central Pacific area and causing fear among maritime carriers in the region; thanks to these arrests there have been no cases of theft at sea in 2022.
