Nariño. Units of the National Navy, carried out maritime surveillance and control operations, and found a submarine ship that would be used for the transport of alkaloids, in the Boca Naranjo sector, in the area of the Sanquianga National Natural Park, in the department of Nariño.
This ship, apparently belonging to the organizations at the service of drug trafficking, was manned by two Colombians and a Mexican. It is 12 meters long and three meters wide. It has two engines of 250 horsepower and would have a capacity to transport around two or three tons of alkaloids; however, inside it contained nothing.
Thanks to information from Naval Intelligence, units of the Coast Guard Station conducted the interdiction operation, and, following the established procedure, they took the ship to the facilities of the National Navy in Tumaco, where it put into custody of the authorities.
The three captured will be accused of the crimes of use, construction, commercialization, possession and transportation of submarines, penalized through Law 1311 of 2009.
This type of boats are called semi-submarine because they are devices designed to navigate with a structure on the surface of the sea, making difficult their detection by equipment and sensors. These boats are rudimentarily made and they are illicit. According to the first investigations, the ship and the material would allegedly be used to transport illicit drugs to Central America, which makes this operation a blow to hit the criminal actions of criminal groups in the area.
So far this year, the National Navy has found 13 modified semi -submarine-type boats in the Colombian Pacific and has significantly weakened the logistic structure of drug trafficking organizations with the capture of 97 people related to this illegal activity.
