Navy men support the construction of prefabricated houses on Santa Catalina Island
Noel Archibol, a 79-year-old fisherman, and his wife, a 59-year-old seam highlight and housewife, are the beneficiaries of the first rebuilt house on the island of Santa Catalina. This project is led by the Ministry of Housing with the support of the Colombian Navy, that in six days of work were able to return the joy of a decent home to this Colombian family.
President Iván Duque Márquez arrived at the construction place, who after visiting the islands of Providence and Santa Catalina, checking the cleaning and recovery work carried out by the Military Forces, Police and the entire group of committed institutions, said that as it is demonstrated by this pilot, all institutions will continue to work together so this place becomes once again a wonderful Providence.
The work, in which 10 Marines have worked from sun to sun, is a new house, with water, electricity and sanitary services. Mr. Noel, a native of this island, said –although he speaks a somewhat confused Spanish– referring to the work of the Colombian Marines: Thank you!
At the end of the activity, after the departure of the President, Mr. Noel and his son Tómas made a valuable recognition to the work of the Marines, who are on Santa Catalina Island, in which they expressed their optimism and also that: "Thanks to them [the Marines] the island will return to look like it was before".
