Units of the Colombian Navy, jointly with the National Army and in coordination with the National Police in a military operation against the Baudó substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, arrested two alleged members of this criminal organization and found war material; two deaths occurred in the course of military operations.
The operation was carried out in the hamlet Malaguita, in the Special District of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, approximately 30 kilometers of the municipality Port, there Intelligence of the Navy of Colombia detected a camp zone belonging to this criminal organization.
At the end of the armed confrontation, troops of the Colombian Navy, the National Army and members of the National Police entered the camp area where two individuals who were guarding the place were arrested. Members of the Military Forces of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the National Police, carried out the lifting of two members of the GAO Clan del Golfo who died during the military operation.
During the inspection in the area, seven assault rifle, a shotgun, six pistol and revolvers, 11 magazines of long rifles, more than 50 units of ammunition of different calibers, military accessories material such as backpacks and garments of exclusive use of the Military Forces, nine communication equipment units, four motorcycles and propaganda material alluding to the GAO Clan del Golfo, were found by troops. This military operation is currently ongoing with the aim of arresting the members of this criminal organization.
Due to the strength and precision of the operation, there were no damages to the inhabitants of the sector nor to the participant members of the Military Forces. The individuals arrested, the material found and the bodies were brought up to Buenaventura and put into custody of the authority.
The Baudó substructure of the GAO Clan del Golfo, under the criminal control of alias Firulais and alias Walter is the main responsible for activities related to cocaine and marijuana trafficking in this region of the country. They are responsible for causing anxiety and fear in the inhabitants of this area and for carrying out criminal operations that attack the Human rights of its inhabitants and the ethnic communities that inhabit the sector.
Additionally, they are the main responsible for recruiting and exploit children, girls, and teens and coordinate attacks against the Military Forces, which causes the displacement of approximately 300 families in the village of Bajo Calima, Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca), because of the constant territorial dispute for the control of the illegal activities in the area agist the Organised Armed Group, GAO, ELN.
