Simultaneously in different areas of Cali and Buenaventura in the department of Valle del Cauca, four alleged members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, were arrested during a joint and coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Navy, the National Army and the National Police.
Among those arrested are the individuals known by the aliases Marlon, Zarca and Escorpión for whom arrest warrants were issued for the crimes of association to commit crimes and manufacture, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition. In the same way, he was arrested in flagrante delicto alias El Chino for the alleged crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.
During the operation, two small firearms, ammunition of different calibers, communications equipment and military accessory material were found by troops, which, together with the arrested, were put into custody of the authority.
The GAO Clan del Golfo is responsible for causing fear and anxiety in the inhabitants of the Colombian Pacific coast due to the criminal activities they carry out in the region. In the same way, they are responsible for forcibly recruiting children, young people and adolescents of the ethnic communities of the coast and also using them for criminal purposes such as drug trafficking, armed confrontations against other criminal groups and attacks against the Military Forces and civilians.
