Desminadores le salvan la vida a un campesino tras evacuarlo durante 6 horas por camino de herradura

The event occurred in the vicinity of the municipality of San Luis de Cubarral, Meta, where soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineers Battalion No.4, were conducting investigations to rule out the presence of anti-personnel mines in the area.

Noticing the work of the members of the Military Forces, 15 men who were carrying their companion and partner from the Centro village, belonging to the municipality of La Uribe, Meta, asked for help, because it was 7:00 a.m. and the itinerary they had taken since 7:00 p.m. had not yet ended.

The mine clearance specialists who were in the Mortiños sector, decide to help and carry on their shoulders the 28-year-old peasant, who, when examined by the nurse soldier, presented symptoms of appendicitis.

“The man had a heavy and intense pain, so the nurse decides to give him first aid and we put him on our shoulders, we walked through rudimentary road for six hours, on that improvised stretcher of sticks and sacks of Fique that the community made,” says sergeant José David Misal, a Non-Technical Study leader who works in the area.

The members of the Military Forces and the inhabitants agree that the easiest way for the extraction is by the vicinity of the Sumapaz páramo, so without hesitation they continue the way along the road, a situation that took place through the low temperature in the páramo.

However, the dedication and service for others, leads them to give the man to some nurses who in the locality 20 of Sumapaz, were waiting for them with an ambulance to transfer him to an assistance center.

So far this year, the mine clearance specialists of the National Army have carried out more than ten medical evacuations in remote places of the Colombian territory.
